How many members of my visual novel team do I need to have?

For a non-profit group doing projects for fun, it has been proven the most effective groups other than solo ones are two-person co-productions.
The reason is that there is only so much back and forth planning that can be distributed among more than two people. If there are more than two people in a team, typically the third person onwards would take on only minor roles such as composing music or proofreading. If that is the case, such people should just be credited on a commission basis according the the assets they produced.
This doesn't mean that groups of more persons couldn't be just as effective... but those typically require high synchronizing of common schedules and only work for people who are on the internet all the time.
Usually, there should be no more than two chefs, or a pilot and a copilot.
And like manga, usually the two people are the writer and artist, or programmer and artist. Or in the case of using stock characters, a programmer and writer.
